The definition of hospitality is…the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors and strangers. The question is how well do we do hospitality at St. Columban? As part of our new Vision, the parish staff started looking for ways to make St. Columban more hospitable! You may have noticed new reserved parking signs for first time guests. Encourage your friends to come and let them know we have a spot reserved for them.
A welcome to guests and information is listed in our worship aid for visitors or new parishioners. A new ministry has also been created for Greeters. The ushers do a wonderful job helping people find the restrooms, getting them a seat, helping the elderly, finding families to take up the gifts, and their service is very important, but greeters have a different role. They are there to open the door for each person, to welcome them with a friendly, “Hello!”, “Welcome!”, “How are you today!” We are looking for families or individuals that are enthusiastic, cheery, warm and friendly and can greet people before Mass. Each person will wear a brightly colored lanyard that will designate them as a greeter. Families and children of all ages can help in this ministry. All you need to do is arrive 15 minutes before Mass starts. Don’t worry about not finding a seat as a reserved pew will be marked for your family to use as soon as Mass starts.
